Lavenham – 10 mins drive

Picturesque historic market town with large ruined Abbey with links to Magna Carta.  Wednesday and Saturday markets – lots to see and do in Bury St Edmunds

 

Cambridge – 1 hr drive

World famous university town. Visit the historic colleges and have a punt on the River Cam in Cambridge

National Trust stately home dating from Tudor times. Country and parkland walks, Beatrix Potter readings for the children, tearoom at Melford Hall

 

Hedingham Castle – 30 mins drive

Loads of family fun at this fine Norman Castle – one of the best preserved in England. There’s something for all ages at Hedingham Castle

 

Helmingham Hall Gardens – 45 mins drive

Perfect afternoon out for all the family in the calm serenity of the gardens surrounding a breathtaking moated manor house. Treasure hunts for children, Coach House tea rooms and Stable shops, and wild deer at Helmingham

 

IWM Duxford – 50 mins drive

Cycling

South Suffolk is a haven for cyclists of all ages. The gently undulating terrain and quiet lanes are perfect for a cycling break, with a number of designated cycle routes – the nearest a very short ride away from Clay Hall House

 

Walking

Our picturesque Stour Valley offers walkers dozens of footpaths, bridleways and byways; one of them starting right outside Clay Hall House in our own private lane.
